The most important step you can take toward ensuring that you maximize the quality of your life, next to having a strong self-awareness and being personally accountable, is to surround yourself with good people.

You have aspired to be a manager since the start of your career.  You have been a dedicated student and you have followed directions.

Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you are right.

This is both the title of a very funny, under-rated Bill Murray film made in 1997 and a contender for the title of my biography should it ever be written, which is very unlikely.

Many years ago, when I was an undergraduate college student enjoying the heck out of my junior year, I was fortunate to be part of something that I will remember, with pride, forever.

You are undoubtedly familiar with the original golden rule, “treat others as you would like them to treat you.”  I say original because the golden rule has been appropriately modified over the years to now read, “treat others as they would like to be treated.”

You have aspired to be a manager since the start of your career.  You have been a dedicated student and you have followed directions. 

Over the years, I have spent a lot of time identifying skills and character traits that I believe are direct contributors to career success.

As a leader, if you ever find that you are about to start a sentence with the words,” I’m waiting for…”, stop.  If you wait, everyone else on your team waits too and if everyone is waiting, nothing is getting done.
